Autism: Resources & Support for Families in Georgia

Claire Dees is the executive director and co-founder of Spectrum Autism Support Group in Gwinnett County, Georgia, which was started in 1998 by two moms and over 100 people who attended the first meeting.  In addition to being a support group, Spectrum provides camps, respite, social skills groups, family events, community education, and training to over 1800 individuals with autism of all ages and abilities and their families. Spectrum just purchased a building in downtown Duluth, Georgia which will become the home of the Spectrum Autism Support Center whereby it will continue to fill in the gaps in support and services with existing and new programs.

On this episode of Smart Parents Successful Students, you will hear:

  • Why it’s important for kids with Autism to have good social skills

  • Strategies to empower kids to advocate for themselves
  • The advantages of participating in the arts for developing communication skills
